More SEACOM downtime frustrates ISPs
SEACOM has been dogged by downtime over the past year, and the cable system’s problems do not seem to end.
Last night SEACOM clients started reporting downtime just before 23:30, with problems on a terrestrial part of the SEACOM system shouldering the blame.
Early indications are that it is not an undersea cable break on SEACOM which is responsible for the latest downtime, but rather issues on the route between Alexandria and Cairo.
The latest SEACOM downtime has yet again impacted local broadband consumers with many ADSL users reporting a slowdown in international access or even a total blackout in international Internet connectivity.
Industry players are not impressed. One SEACOM client said that they must really get off this cable system as the “failure rate is ridiculous”.
Questions have also been raised about refunds from SEACOM during these outages. One service provider pointed out that the previous five week outage on SEACOM was deemed an ‘act of God’, and therefore no refund was forthcoming despite the impact on their business.
SEACOM was contacted for information about the downtime which started last night, but the company did not provide any feedback by the time of publication.
