SEACOM down and up again
Over the last few weeks SEACOM downtime has become a regular event, with the cable going down twice in as many weeks because of problems on its SMW4 segment.
SEACOM went down again today at around 13:25, causing international connectivity issues on many broadband services including Afrihost, Cybersmart and others.
The TENET SEACOM monitoring graph clearly illustrated the downtime, but the cause of the downtime is not known yet.
MWEB ISP MD Derek Hershaw said that they are currently talking to SEACOM to establish the cause of the downtime and the restore time, but no details have emerged yet.
Seacom SA GM Martin Sanne explained that there was a dip on SMW4, but that all services have been restored. Marin added that they are in discussions with SMW4 to establish what caused the dip in connectivity.
