ICASA CEO placed on “precautionary suspension”

ICASA has suspended its chief executive Pakamile Pongwana, pending the outcome of an internal disciplinary process.

Pongwana took the reigns at the regulator from Themba Dlamini in November 2013.

Before ICASA, Pongwana was the managing executive for regulatory affairs at Vodacom.

He also served as deputy director general for telecommunications policy at the Department of Communications.

ICASA’s COO Willington Ngwepe will take the role of acting CEO until the processes have been concluded, said the regulator’s council.

ICASA said the disciplinary process is an internal matter and details on it “shall be communicated when the need arises”.
