Local Loop Unbundling hearings detailed

Summary: ICASA has laid out its schedule for Local Loop Unbundling hearings with telecoms operators and other industry bodies which are to take place during October 2011

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) today (5 October 2011) released the details about its long awaited public Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) hearings.

ICASA said in a press statement that LLU is a regulatory initiative to facilitate improved end-user quality of service and lower retail prices in the provision of Internet services.

The public hearings are a result of the 2007 publication of ICASA’s initial views on the implementation of the Ministerial Policy Direction to implement local loop unbundling.

The hearings will take place from 11 to 13 October 2011 at the ICASA office in Sandton, Johannesburg.
