Vodacom expands telecoms offerings

Gated communities and office parks in South Africa will now be able to receive all their communication, entertainment and security services from Vodacom Gated Services.

Vodacom South Africa bought a controlling 75% stake in Internet Solution’s Gated Services (ISGS), with the remaining 25% to be held by founding members.

Tlhabeli Ralebitso, Executive Director, Vodacom Ventures says: “Connected gated communities and office parks are key markets offering great growth potential, which forms an integral part of the overall growth strategy of Vodacom South Africa. Internet Solutions exited ISGS, but the founding members will still stay involved in the new company.

IS confirmed the sale of their share in IS Gated Services. “Gated Communities is an important niche market and we will continue to provide data and voice services to end users through our extensive partner channel.  We have chosen to build partnerships to provide services “beyond the gate.” This requires on-site support skills and a high level of investment in on-site infrastructure.” says Dean Suchard, Internet Solutions Commercial Executive.

“At this stage, it makes more sense to continue investing in our core network where we have seen increased demand for our VoIS and Broadband services,” Suchard added.

Ralebitso concludes that Vodacom Gated Services aims to deliver broadband Internet access, email hosting services, fixed-line telephony and virtual PBX solutions, and intercom, CCTV and access control security services, as well as access to DStv to gated communities, residential estates and commercial developments.
