South Africa’s most trusted VoIP providers revealed
MyBroadband’s business technology survey revealed that Vox, Switch Telecom, Euphoria, and BitCo are the most trusted Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers in South Africa.
783 respondents completed the survey. Only responses from executives and managers who decide which ICT products their companies buy were considered.
As part of the survey, IT decision-makers were asked which VoIP provider they trust the most for their company’s voice needs.
Vox dominated the rankings with 48% of the vote, which shows its strong brand in the South African VoIP market.
The company offers a range of solutions in the business voice market, including hosted and managed IP PBX tools.
It also makes it easy for companies to port numbers from their existing operator to Vox’s voice service.
Another big name in the South African VoIP market, Switch Telecom, finished second with 16% of the vote.
Switch Telecom was launched in 2006 by Gregory Massel and his business partner at the height of Telkom’s dominance.
“It was difficult to convince clients to move from the incumbent, and there was a perception that VoIP would be unreliable,” Massel said.
However, they prevailed, and today, Switch Telecom is one of South Africa’s most successful VoIP and cloud PBX providers.
Over the last few years, Switch Telecom has shown exceptional growth thanks to its cost-effective service, which is easy to deploy and scale.
Euphoria and BitCo shared third place. These companies also have a long history of providing quality VoIP services in South Africa.
George Golding, Conrad De Wet, and Rafal Janik founded Euphoria Telecom in 2011, using De Wet’s house in Woodstock, Cape Town, as their first office.
An angel investor funded the business through payments of R100,000 per month for ten months in return for equity in the company.
“We kept our past small businesses running on the side and paid ourselves only R11,000 per month,” Golding said.
“We used asset finance where we could and required a further R400,000 from the angel investor before the company broke even and began paying and funding itself.”
Business started to blossom. While it took Euphoria Telecom 18 months to make its first R1 million in revenue, it took only another 30 months to increase that to R1 million per month.
Today, Euphoria Telecom is a thriving telecommunications company with a range of products and services.
It has a growing client list in the South African business market, including Takealot, iStore, WeWork, and Mugg & Bean.
BitCo, which Link Africa recently acquired, offers a range of products to the business voice market, including VoIP and virtual cloud-hosted PBX.
Link Africa said the acquisition will enable it to expand its product portfolio, customer base, and network coverage.
BitCo’s strong presence in the business and enterprise sectors made it a valuable asset to Link Africa.
It said the acquisition would combine both companies’ complementary strengths and capabilities, creating a stronger and more diversified telecommunications provider.
