Wayne D’Sa returns as CipherWave CEO
CipherWave Business Solutions has notified customers that Wayne D’Sa has officially resumed his role as chief executive officer.
He will be supported by CipherWave’s current leadership team: Casper Van Der Walt (CTO), Nerasha Parbhoo (CHRO) and Brenton Truter (COO).
This comes amid a period of uncertainty at CipherWave. Shamith Maharaj was appointed CipherWave CEO in November 2023, but left the following year.
He has since returned to Telkom-owned BCX as the managing executive in the solutions division for cloud platform-as-a-service and software-as-a-service.
Since December 2023, D’Sa has been CEO of an emerging Internet service provider (ISP) in the United States, ZoomOnline, which is based in Dallas, Texas.
“Wayne, who previously steered CipherWave’s growth from 2015 to 2024, returns to lead the business into its next chapter of innovation and customer-centric service delivery,” the company said.
Established by James Grcic and Jonathan Mason in 2009, CipherWave began as a small, founder-funded ISP with ambitions to compete against South Africa’s largest telecommunications companies.
D’Sa began his career in IT as an in-service technician at CEB Maintenance in Durban. His next career move was to UUNET, one of South Africa’s key commercial ISPs at the time.
At UUNET, he showed that he was willing to go the extra mile and, as a result, D’Sa quickly rose through the ranks.
He outperformed more senior and experienced colleagues, and quickly became a valuable member of the business.
UUNET was acquired by Verizon in 2006, becoming MTN Business, and D’Sa eventually left the company in 2009.
D’Sa then led the sales division at SYNAQ and was a sales manager at Dimension Data before joining CipherWave in May 2015.
He served as CEO until 2023, when he stepped down from the company. There was no statement from CipherWave about the change. Three years later, D’Sa is back.
“His intimate knowledge of our business, coupled with his understanding of the industry and our customers, ensures that our commitment to your business remains stronger than ever,” the company told clients.
CipherWave assured customers that their day-to-day operations, connectivity, cloud solutions, voice, and security services would continue to run smoothly without disruption.
“Wayne’s leadership will translate CipherWave’s evolution from a robust Internet service provider into an even more integrated technology partner for your business,” it said.
“The executive team, account managers, support engineers and operational teams you trust every day remain entirely at your service.”
