Telkom’s unrivalled fixed line network

On 14 June 2013 Telkom released its annual results for the year ended 31 March 2013, and during its presentation the company highlighted that it has a unique, unrivalled fixed line network.
According to Telkom, its 147,000km fibre network accounts for 80% of the total fibre footprint in South Africa.
Neotel, in comparison, has access to over 15,000km of national long distance fibre and approximately 8,000km of fibre in major metros.
Telkom said that its fibre network forms the backbone of its 40Mbps broadband upgrades, and enables true converged offerings.
Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko said that Telkom links Africa to the world through its submarine cables, terrestrial fibre connecting SADC countries, its global VPN which spans 70 countries and 700 cities, and 3 major satellite service stations.
