Customers were lining up from 05:30 this morning to ensure they were among the first to get their hands on the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max.
MyBroadband visited the Sandton iStore – a flagship store in South Africa – to document the queues and ask people what they were keen to buy.
Many customers said they wanted to buy the iPhone Xs Max, the more expensive version of the two new iPhones. Customers had also come early to buy the Apple Watch Series 4.
Recommended retail prices for the iPhone Xs start at R21,999 for a 64GB model, and go up to R31,999 for a 512GB iPhone Xs Max. The new Apple Watch starts at R7,999.
When the iStore’s doors opened at 07:00, iStore staff cheered and welcomed customers in.
Customers were each given a card with a number on it, and information regarding which product they wanted. This let staff handle sales more efficiently.
A ticket for complimentary coffee was also handed to each customer.
