Neotel subscribers using the company’s wireless broadband services complained on MyBroadband and Facebook about connectivity issues on the network.
MyBroadband forum members in the Clearwater area in Johannesburg first complained on 21 April 2016 that they were unable to connect to the Internet.
The issues persisted through the weekend, with Neotel promising a fix by 25 April.
Further outages were reported on 25 April, and Neotel posted the following notice on its Facebook page:
The Neotel LTE network has experienced intermittent issues of disconnections and speeds in some parts of the network.
Kindly note that our Technology Partner and Specialists are engaged for a speedy resolution.
We assure you that the highest priority is being given for remediation of the issue.
We regret the inconvenience caused in this regard.
While Neotel confirmed there is an issue on its LTE network, WiMAX subscribers have also complained about outages.
Update: Neotel responds
Neotel said a small number of LTE customers in specific areas are currently experiencing intermittent speed degradation, and that its WiMAX customers are not affected.
“No network nodes are down and the degradation does not appear to be due to the failure of any specific equipment,” it said.
Neotel said it is investigating the cause of the degradation, and working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
“The few disconnects reported relate to a separate issue in respect of a few problematic installations,” said Neotel, adding that these issues are being addressed with customers.
