AlwaysOn Wi-Fi plans for mobile devices coming

AlwaysOn, a provider of Wi-Fi access in South Africa, will soon offer packages with “very competitive pricing” specifically aimed at mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Craig Stewart, product manager of AlwaysOn at Internet Solutions, revealed the details when asked how they would compete against similar offerings from Boingo, one of their international roaming partners.

Boingo offers unmetered Wi-Fi access on most of the hotspots available to them globally for up to two mobile devices, for $7.95 (US) per month.

Stewart didn’t offer specifics about their planned packages but promised they would be launched “shortly” and would have “very competitive pricing.”

With cellular networks launching data promotions such as 8ta’s 10GB for R199 and Cell C’s 10MB for R1 recharge rewards, Wi-Fi providers have some stiff competition to beat.

“Watch this space,” Stewart said.
