WiFi hotspot price war
The wireless broadband market is becoming increasingly competitive and the WiFi hotspot space is the latest to see tumbling prices.
Vodacom recently launched their “WirelessG WiFi from Vodacom” service offering WiFi access “around the globe”.
Internet Solutions, which has a strong presence in the WiFi hotspot market, hit back with aggressive pricing which it claims is the “cheapest mobile broadband in the country”.
“Internet Solutions now offers the cheapest mobile broadband in the country through its WiFi hotspot service. In addition, mobile users can now access over 600 public hotspots countrywide through the recent roaming agreement with Wireless G,” Internet Solutions said.
New tariff structures and packages have been implemented at all IS WiFi hotspot locations. Users can choose between extended data and time-based packages.
Prices range from 40c to R1/min for time-based and 15c to 60c/MB for data-based packages. User get to choose from packages that last for 7 days, 30 days, 12 months or those without an expiry date.
The no expiry, time-based packages can be used in separate sessions and are not counted down from the first login.
“On average 30 000 unique users make use of our hotspot network in any given month,” says Justin Spratt, manager of the hotspot division at IS.
“This number is constantly growing as the demand for mobility increases. Travellers and mobile users with laptops and handheld devices demand access in airports, hotels, coffee shops, guest houses and restaurants, all of which IS service. In addition to this, our 13 international integration partners provide an extensive network of hotspots across the globe, enabling access in most major locations.”
