TP-Link’s growth in South Africa
Networking equipment manufacturer TP-Link has been very successful in South Africa, with the local division reporting an average annual sales growth of more than 25%.
The company says its key to success in South Africa is its high-quality products and extensive support network for TP-Link customers.
“TP-Link’s success has been through the buyers who are not only loyal to the brand but the support which they are given,” it said.
“TP-Link takes pride in offering local support, building relationships with their distribution channels, which are all based in SA, and taking care of the needs of their retail market.”
On the manufacturing side, the country manager for South Africa, Dalen Peng, said TP-Link’s research and development team helps it develop products with the latest technology.
Peng said TP-Link’s factory manufactures products in a high-quality environment with strict quality control while keeping costs low to make its products affordable to consumers.
While he said he couldn’t share exact sales figures, as the information is confidential, Peng said TP-Link’s annual growth exceeded 25% on average between 2015 and 2024.
The brand has a stable supply chain and local support network thanks to its local branch office and warehouse.
“One of the main complaints that we have heard from buyers is the issue of stock from our competitors,” TP-Link said.
“That’s where we have the upper hand. We always have stock available, and we have a warehouse based in SA, which is what our competitors lack, not to mention the local support.”
Customers who run into difficulties with their products can contact TP-Link’s customer service through various channels, including live chat, call centre, and email.
“Distributors and employees go out of their way to ensure they do as much as they can to offer support to buyers and those loyal to our brand,” TP-Link added.
Peng said TP-Link’s research and development team has helped it stay at the forefront of new Wi-Fi technologies, describing the company as leading networking from Wi-Fi 4 to Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-FI 6 and now Wi-Fi 7.
He added that TP-Link’s Deco Mesh technology is widely recognised as the best Mesh Wi-Fi system.
“I know that our competitors are very aware of the fact that TP-Link is a threat to them, and that I am proud of because we as a brand are strong, and there is so much that sets us apart,” said Peng.
TP-Link told MyBroadband that its security products are also disrupting the market.
“Those well-known in the security sector are now worrying because out of nowhere TP-Link has come and have started planting their VIGI range in every sector possible, leaving competitors a little upset because now they aren’t the only well-known brand within the security space,” it said.
The company was awarded MyBroadband’s Best Networking Brand award in July 2024.
For consideration for the award, brands must demonstrate a wide range of networking hardware and solutions offering impressive performance.
TP-Link stood out over other networking brands available locally while also offering great pricing, value, and a strong brand reputation.
In recent feedback to MyBroadband, Pinnacle ICT said TP-Link is the dominant router brand among its customers. It offers affordable yet reliable routers that are well-suited for households and small businesses.
Nology also observed continued strong demand for TP-Link.
“TP-Link is serious about its growth in South Africa and will stop at nothing to reach its goals,” TP-Link said.
