A call centre agent for Mr. Price Money foiled the attempt of a conman to regain access to the account of Knysna man he had defrauded in January 2014.<\/p>\n
Previously the scammer had gained control over cellphone number of Mr. Thompson by porting it from Vodacom<\/a> to Cell C<\/a>, after which he used it to access Thompson\u2019s cellphone banking accounts.<\/p>\n One of the accounts from which the scammer took money was the target\u2019s Mr. Price Money account.<\/p>\n With control of the victim\u2019s cellphone number, the fraudster was able to use an USSD<\/abbr><\/a> command available to Mr. Price Money clients to buy airtime to the value of R3,508.35.<\/p>\n When Thompson reported the fraud to Mr. Price, they blocked the option to buy airtime and four days later gave him a full refund.<\/p>\n The fraudster, perhaps unsatisfied with his take, tried to regain access to Thompson\u2019s Mr. Price Money account some weeks later by phoning the call centre.<\/p>\n The call centre agent quickly realises that the person calling is not Mr. Thompson and gets a little aggressive with her caller.<\/p>\n An audio recording of the call is embedded below for your listening pleasure:<\/p>\n
