{"id":100830,"date":"2014-04-16T15:31:02","date_gmt":"2014-04-16T13:31:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=100830"},"modified":"2014-04-16T16:57:12","modified_gmt":"2014-04-16T14:57:12","slug":"cell-c-hikes-oob-data-prices-by-560","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/100830-cell-c-hikes-oob-data-prices-by-560.html","title":{"rendered":"Cell C hikes OOB data prices by 560%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Cell C\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/213919-Cell-C\">Cell C<\/a> has informed its subscribers that it is increasing its out of bundle data rates will change on 1 May 2014.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cell C\u2019s website the company is increasing its out of bundle rates for its smartdata bundles from 15c per MB to 99c per MB \u2013 an increase of 560%.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C first reduced its standard data rate to R0.15c per MB for in- and out-of-bundle usage across its entire data product portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the company said that it is committed to \u201coffering customers deals that are affordable, transparent and simple\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat you see is what you get. No more nasty surprises when you go out of bundle. You will pay one low rate for in-bundle and out-of-bundle usage,\u201d said Cell C CEO, <a title=\"Alan Knott-Craig\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/224891-Alan-Knott-Craig-%28Senior%29\">Alan Knott-Craig<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This has now changed, but it is not clear why the company is increasing its out of bundle rates.<\/p>\n<p>Asked to comment on the changes, Cell C provided the following statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Over the last few months Cell C has made adjustments to its data bundles, which now offer customers lower in-bundle rates (from as little as 2c\/MB up to a maximum of 15c\/MB). Cell C has designed these packages so that from the lowest usage to the highest usage customers get some of the most competitive in-bundle rates in the market.
