{"id":102603,"date":"2014-05-21T14:06:24","date_gmt":"2014-05-21T12:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=102603"},"modified":"2014-05-21T14:36:02","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T12:36:02","slug":"sa-mobile-networks-fail-quality-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/102603-sa-mobile-networks-fail-quality-test.html","title":{"rendered":"SA mobile networks fail quality tests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (<a title=\"Icasa\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/462443-Independent-Communications-Authority-of-South-Africa-%28ICASA%29\">Icasa<\/a>) published its quarterly Quality Of Service (QoS) Monitoring Test Reports.<\/p>\n<p>Icasa said the QoS report is aimed at identifying shortcomings in the services offered by the 3 major mobile operators, and thereby promoting redress in the public interest.<\/p>\n<p>Quality testing was performed on <a title=\"Vodacom\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227063-Vodacom\">Vodacom<\/a>, <a title=\"MTN\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226943-MTN\">MTN<\/a> and <a title=\"Cell C\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/213919-Cell-C\">Cell C<\/a>\u2019s networks and services provided in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.<\/p>\n<p>Icasa conducted the QoS monitoring through drive-testing using the TEMS investigation tool.<\/p>\n<p>The focus of the drive-test was on network performance in terms of accessibility and retention of voice calls. The metric used to measure the above were Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR) and Drop Call Rate (DCR).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">KwaZulu Natal results<\/h3>\n<p>The results for KwaZulu Natal, which are based on tests done during the last quarter of 2013, show:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vodacom failed retainability test in Msinga, Empangeni, and Durban North\/KwaMashu<\/li>\n<li>Cell C failed retainability test in Msinga, Empangeni, Richards Bay, Durban North\/KwaMashu and Port Shepstone<\/li>\n<li>Cell-C failed the accessibility test in Msinga, Richards Bay and Port Shepstone<\/li>\n<li>MTN failed retainability measurements in Msinga and Durban North\/KwaMashu.<\/li>\n<li>MTN failed accessibility test in Msinga, Empangeni, Richards Bay, Durban North\/KwaMashu and Port tests conducted during the first quarter of 2014, show:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MTN failed the accessibility test in all the tested areas i.e Cape Town CBD, Cape Town International Airport, Worcester and Somerset West\/Stellenbosch<\/li>\n<li>MTN failed retainability tests in Somerset West\/Stellenbosch.<\/li>\n<li>Cell C failed accessibility test in Somerset West\/Stellenbosch,<\/li>\n<li>Cell C failed retainability tests in all the tested areas i.e. Cape Town CBD, Cape Town International Airport, Worcester and Somerset West\/Stellenbosch,<\/li>\n<li>Vodacom failed retainability in Worcester lodge complaints with the authority should they be dissatisfied with how operators have dealt with network and service deficiencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will enable us to cross-check data provided by
