{"id":10267,"date":"2009-10-30T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-10-30T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-10-30T19:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-10-30T17:00:00","slug":"no-free-tv-yet-sabc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/10267-no-free-tv-yet-sabc.html","title":{"rendered":"No Free TV Yet:  SABC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SABC on Friday said the payment of television licenses remained in force, for now, as a new bill seeking to abolish TV licences was published for comment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bill is currently a discussion document which still has to go through a public consultation process and various legislative processes before it becomes law,&#8221; the broadcaster said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The draft <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/Telecoms\/10257.html\">Public Service Broadcasting Bill<\/a> sought, among other things, to abolish TV licences and secure the SABC&#8217;s funding from other sources.<\/p>\n<p>It is intended to align the broadcasting system with the country&#8217;s development goals.
