{"id":10281,"date":"2009-11-02T10:09:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-02T08:09:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-11-02T10:09:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-02T08:09:00","slug":"sabc-tax-on-the-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/10281-sabc-tax-on-the-way.html","title":{"rendered":"SABC tax on the way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Public Service Broadcasting Bill 2009 has recently been Gazetted, and deals with various issues, including funding for development broadcasting and establishing a &lsquo;Public Service Broadcasting Fund&rsquo;.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Service Broadcasting Fund will comprise personal income tax, money appropriated by parliament, contributions from broadcasting services licensees, contributions from business and &lsquo;money accruing from any other source&rsquo;.<\/p>\n<p>The new bill calls for <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/Telecoms\/10257.html\">TV license fees to be scrapped<\/a>.&nbsp; Bad news for people without TV licenses is that existing <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/Telecoms\/10267.html\">TV licenses will remain valid<\/a>, and therefore payable, until the end of the financial year when the new broadcasting act comes into force.&nbsp; Money owed to the SABC in terms of TV licenses will also remain valid until fully paid up.<\/p>\n<p>Business Day has now revealed that there will be an increase of up to 1% in personal income tax to replace the TV license fees.&nbsp; &#8220;A tax of up to 1% would be imposed on taxpayers above their personal income tax to assist broadcasting,&#8221; Business Day quoted the Department of Communications&rsquo; DG Mamodupi Mohlala as saying.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=200311\"><strong>SABC tax<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; discussion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TV license fees to be replaced by increased tax to boost the coffers of the national broadcaster<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10281","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-telecoms"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10281"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=10281"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10281\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10281"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=10281"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=10281"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
