{"id":10343,"date":"2009-11-05T18:14:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-05T16:14:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-11-05T18:14:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-05T16:14:00","slug":"new-sub-r-50-per-gb-adsl-service-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/adsl\/10343-new-sub-r-50-per-gb-adsl-service-launched.html","title":{"rendered":"New sub-R 50 per GB ADSL service launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Competition in the ADSL service provider market is already very competitive which means that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have to operate on very slim margins.&nbsp; Traditional dial-up, ISDN and ADSL ISPs now also have to deal with new market entrants who are willing to cut their prices to the bone to gain market share.<\/p>\n<p>In the last few months traditional hosting providers have entered the ADSL market with very aggressive tariffs.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/ADSL\/9716.html\">Afrihost launched a R29 per GB ADSL offering<\/a> for a promotional period, undercutting all other ADSL service providers.&nbsp; While some industry players described this service as below-cost and unsustainable, Afrihost is still offering this price to customers in a &lsquo;prolonged&rsquo; promotional period.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The latest hosting provider to enter the ADSL market with an aggressively priced service is Gridhost with its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gridhost.co.za\/adsl_prepaid.php\" target=\"_blank\">R44 per GB ADSL data bundles<\/a>.&nbsp; Gridhost has become known for its cheap R8.95 hosting service, and has now jumped into the broadband market with the same philosophy of cut-throat pricing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;re proud to have entered the ADSL market and are sure that the service will be as much of a success as our Web Hosting has been for our customers&rdquo; says Dave Lane, Gridhost Core Network Architect.<\/p>\n<p>While not as aggressive as Afrihosts&rsquo; fees, Gridhost&rsquo;s offering undercuts most other similar ADSL data bundles in the market.&nbsp; Gridhost is using standard shaped SAIX bandwidth for its ADSL services, and has four different data bundle offerings: 1 GB (R44), 3 GB (R131.95), 5 GB (R219.95) and 8 GB (R351.95).&nbsp; Gridhost also offers prepaid ADSL data bundles at around R56 per GB.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This offer from Gridhost joins a slew of ISPs which recently either launched new services or dropped the price of their current ADSL offerings to around R50 per GB.&nbsp; This includes <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/ADSL\/8806.html\">Vox Telepreneur<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/ADSL\/8900.html\">G-Connect<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/ADSL\/9285.html\">Web Africa<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=201047\"><strong>ADSL data pricing discussion<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Traditional hosting provider launches R44 per GB ADSL service using SAIX backbone<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_threads_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10343","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-adsl"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10343"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=10343"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10343\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10343"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=10343"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=10343"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
