“Yes, he has resigned,” public enterprises spokeswoman Ayanda Shezi said.<\/p>\n
He resigned on Monday morning and further details were not available this morning.<\/p>\n
She was not certain when the resignation came into effect.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Jacob Maroga was back in the office as chief executive officer of Eskom, in spite of an announcement last week by Godsell that he had resigned.<\/p>\n
“He’s resumed his duties as chief executive,” said spokesman Andrew Etzinger.<\/p>\n
Etzinger said it was never completely clear whether he had resigned or not and there was an issue of “interpretation of a discussion”.<\/p>\n
“Mr Maroga’s interpretation was that he hadn’t resigned, the board’s was that he had.<\/p>\n
“Mr Maroga had offered to resign and the board had accepted that offer… it in was a context of a discussion and not a formal resignation.”<\/p>\n
This was in line with the ANC Youth League and Black Management Forum’s scepticism over the resignation.<\/p>\n
“As far the board is concerned he is the CEO again. I’m sure the process is not completed, but what we can confirm today is that Mr Maroga is back in the office,” said Etzinger.<\/p>\n
Calls and e-mails for Maroga or Godsell to add comment were not returned.<\/p>\n
The company is yet to issue a formal media statement on the matter.<\/p>\n
It has been reported that at one point both Godsell and Maroga resigned from the helm of the power utility, which is weathering severe criticism over its handling of the country’s electricity supply needs.<\/p>\n
