Naspers released its results for the year ended 31 March 2014, which showed that there are now more than 5 million DStv subscribers in South Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur pay-television business reported growth in revenues. Subscriber numbers are up by 1.3 million households, taking the base to over 8 million homes across 50 countries in sub-Saharan Africa,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRevenues grew by 20% to R36.3 billion. Investments in DTT services resulted in trading profits creeping up at a slower 13% to R8.5 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company added that it continues to invest in their online offering, and are expanding their services on mobile phones, tablets and computers, and launched an improved personal video recorder.<\/p>\n

MultiChoice\u2019s DStv BoxOffice service, the company said, is averaging 529,000 movie rentals per month.<\/p>\n

At R25 per rental, the group\u2019s BoxOffice service amounted to R13.2 million per month in revenue, and is up from 400,000 movie rentals per month it recorded in 2013.<\/p>\n

Naspers said that its PVR base increased 15% year on year, from 956,000 to 1.1 million after the group launched its new Explora PVR with expanded hard drive in 2013.<\/p>\n
