{"id":10858,"date":"2009-12-16T17:32:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-16T15:32:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-12-16T17:32:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-16T15:32:00","slug":"google-s-online-ad-push","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/10858-google-s-online-ad-push.html","title":{"rendered":"Google&#039;s online ad push"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google said the home pages of its globally-popular video-sharing website YouTube have become hot venues for display ads.<\/p>\n<p>Google has been masterful at pumping revenue out of &#8220;pay-per-click&#8221; link advertising paired with results of Internet searches.<\/p>\n<p>An unrelenting boom in video, television and film being delivered online offers opportunity to make cash by weaving in advertising targeted to the interests of viewers.<\/p>\n<p>Google executives said that ad-targeting technology from DoubleClick, which it bought in 2007 for 3.1 billion dollars, is at the core of its online display advertising strategy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to simplify how display advertising is bought and sold,&#8221; Google vice president of product management Neal Mohan said during a webcast outlining the company&#8217;s approach to the market.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our aim is to democratize the display advertising ecosystem to allow more businesses to participate.&#8221; DoubleClick acts as a display advertising &#8220;stock exchange&#8221; and Google then provides a simple tool for businesses to create online marketing campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>Google said it is seeing &#8220;tremendous success&#8221; in the display advertising market and is winning business from top advertisers.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube has sold 90 percent of the display advertising space on its US homepages this year, according to Tom Pickett, director of online sales and operations at the service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are also now seeing good results on home pages internationally, but we&#8217;ve just scratched the surface so there is lots of head room,&#8221; Pickett said.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube has tripled the number of &#8220;monetized views&#8221; and earns ad revenue on more than a billion of the online videos watched weekly, according to Pickett.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This has been a terrific year for us in display advertising,&#8221; Mohan said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google on Tuesday outlined a strategy for seizing a bigger share of online display advertising that has long been a key stronghold for rival Yahoo!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[19],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10858","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-business"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10858"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=10858"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10858\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10858"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=10858"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=10858"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
