6 event rumour control: specs, iWatch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s that time of year again.<\/p>\n<p>Apple has a launch event scheduled for tomorrow, 9 September 2014, and we engorge ourselves on rumours and \u201cleaks\u201d until it is impossible for whatever is announced to live up to our expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Among the latest \u201cleaks\u201d to hit the web is a video purportedly showing an activated iPhone 6.<\/p>\n<p>This leak follows months of speculation that Apple would introduce larger-screen variants of its popular smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>A presentation of spec sheets published on French website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igen.fr\/iphone\/2014\/08\/dimensions-poids-design-les-choix-dapple-pour-liphone-6-87272\" target=\"_blank\">iGen.fr<\/a> on 22 August 2014 seemed to confirm this, listing both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models.<\/p>\n<p>The two devices are set to be thinner than the current iPhone 5s and 5c range, and feature rounder corners that are more reminiscent of the iPad.<\/p>\n<p>Other information that has come to light suggests that a 16GB model of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will still be available at the low-end, and that it will feature 1GB RAM and support for Long Term Evolution cellular technology.<\/p>\n<p>There is also evidence to suggest that the next iPhone will finally support Near Field Communication, something which has been available in high-end Android and Windows Phone devices for years.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eQopSbASO40\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">iWatch \/ iTime<\/h3>\n<p>A new iPhone isn\u2019t the only thing that\u2019s rumoured to be announced tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Apple is also expected to unveil its own line of wearable devices, particularly the iWatch.<\/p>\n<p>This wouldn\u2019t be the first time Apple was rumoured to launch a smart watch, but this time round the leaked details of the device, including its link to new features in the upcoming release of iOS 8, is a bit more specific.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg reported during March 2013 that Apple\u2019s smart watch would include sensors for monitoring health-related data (e.g. heart rate monitor, pedometer), as well as mapping and positioning sensors.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, citing sources \u201cclose to Apple\u201d, the Wall Street Journal reported that the iWatch would have a curved OLED display, include NFC support, and be available in two sizes.<\/p>\n<p>Users with a relatively new Apple device will be able to watch the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/live\/\" target=\"_blank\">live stream<\/a> of the company\u2019s as-yet unnamed special event on 9 September 2014, from 19:00 South Africa
