{"id":110666,"date":"2014-10-06T11:31:32","date_gmt":"2014-10-06T09:31:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=110666"},"modified":"2014-10-06T11:32:41","modified_gmt":"2014-10-06T09:32:41","slug":"worst-passwords-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/110666-worst-passwords-in-the-world.html","title":{"rendered":"Worst passwords in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The recent targeted attack on iCloud users, which led to the release of nude celebrity photos, was partly successful because of weak passwords.<\/p>\n<p>Apple said in a statement that celebrity accounts were \u201ccompromised by a very targeted attack on user names, passwords, and security questions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Apple statement suggested that easy-to-guess passwords were to blame in some of the cases where celebrity accounts were hacked.<\/p>\n<p>Weak passwords are often to blame when hackers gain access to password protected services, which raises the question: which passwords should you avoid using?<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Common passwords not to use<\/h3>\n<p>It is speculated that iBrute was used to hack into the aforementioned iCloud accounts. This service uses <a title=\"Passwords\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/hackappcom\/ibrute\/blob\/master\/passlist.txt\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>500 of the most popular passwords globally<\/strong><\/a>, which were leaked by RockYou.<\/p>\n<p>The ten most common passwords on the RockYou list are as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Password1<\/li>\n<li>Princess1<\/li>\n<li>P@ssw0rd<\/li>\n<li>Passw0rd<\/li>\n<li>Michael1<\/li>\n<li>Blink182<\/li>\n<li>!QAZ2wsx<\/li>\n<li>Charlie1<\/li>\n<li>Anthony1<\/li>\n<li>1qaz!QAZ<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The RockYou password list is only one of many compilations of the most common passwords in the world.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Trustwave\" href=\"https:\/\/gsr.trustwave.com\/topics\/business-password-analysis\/2014-business-password-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Trustwave also produced<\/strong><\/a> a recent list of passwords to avoid, where it used Active Directory environments to gather hashed passwords which they set out to crack.<\/p>\n<p>By using a simple dictionary attack, they recovered 53.97 percent of passwords within just a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch a short cracking time using a word list from last year\u2019s study shows that passwords were as predictable as ever,\u201d Trustwave said.<\/p>\n<p>The ten most common passwords from the Trustwave experiment are listed below.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Password1<\/li>\n<li>Hello123<\/li>\n<li>password<\/li>\n<li>Welcome1<\/li>\n<li>banco@1<\/li>\n<li>training<\/li>\n<li>Password123<\/li>\n<li>job12345<\/li>\n<li>spring<\/li>\n<li>food1234<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Trustwave also listed some valuable insights into what type of passwords are used, as shown in the images below.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_110670\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Passwords.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-110670\" class=\"size-full wp-image-110670\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Passwords.jpg\" alt=\"Passwords - L = lowercase letter, U= uppercase letter and N = number\" width=\"600\" height=\"884\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Passwords.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Passwords-271x400.jpg 271w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-110670\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Passwords &#8211;
