Vodacom has enabled support for high definition (HD) voice in Johannesburg, and is busy rolling out support for the technology country-wide.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the word from Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub, who was speaking at the MyBroadband conference on Tuesday, 30 September 2014.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes after Vodacom recently revealed it is running live trials<\/a> for enhanced voice services, which includes HD voice, echo cancellation, and noise reduction.<\/p>\n

Vodacom explained that echo cancellation and noise reduction will work on all handsets, while HD voice requires a device capable of supporting HD voice.<\/p>\n

In August, MTN launched HD voice calling<\/strong><\/a> technology using the Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) coding standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, there are no HD voice calls on LTE, so this technology applies to 3G calls, MTN South Africa CTO Eben Albertyn said at the time.<\/p>\n
