Multichoice has announced two \u2018big\u2019 innovations for customers who own the DStv Explora personal video recorder (PVR) decoder – remote recording and additional catalogue called Catch-up Plus which would enable 500 hours of content.<\/p>\n
CEO at DStv Digital Media, John Kotsaftis, told journalists at an event in Northcliff on Wednesday: \u201cWe\u2019ve been talking about connecting the Explora for some time now. The Explora will be fully connected by the 20th of November”.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat that will give you is two big things. One is the ability to do remote recording, so across various touch points, whether its an app, a browser, or a mobi site, once you are connected to an Explora, all the electronic programme drives will show a record button. When you press that record button, it will override whatever else you\u2019ve got on the box.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said that as an example if you were on holiday, you can go on your mobile and press record, to override any existing functions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe other big one is that we are going to have a new catch-up catalogue called Catch-up Plus. The new service would add 300 titles to include box sets, with the current system containing around 280 titles already.\u201d<\/p>\n
He stressed that this is the first version of the product. He said that the first version would be a download model, where content could be downloaded onto the device, so as to get around the bandwidth challenge.<\/p>\n
He said that by April 2015, the company would include a function to download almost instantly.<\/p>\n
