The Right2Know Campaign will march on cell phone providers this weekend, campaigning for more affordable mobile costs.<\/p>\n
Media freedom and communication activists will deliver memoranda to MTN, Vodacom, Cell C, and Telkom Mobile, demanding that the cost of prepaid airtime be immediately lowered to an affordable rate on all price plans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe so-called price wars that began after the Vodacom\/MTN court case against Icasa earlier this year has been, in reality, an advertising war,\u201d Right2Know said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that users should not have to opt-in to temporary promotional rates, but should automatically be transferred to the cheapest basic rate available regardless of what plan they are on.\u201d<\/p>\n
Right2Know said that cell phone companies exploit customers with a high cost of communication in a time when all people have a right to new communication technologies such as mobile broadband and basic airtime.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, on Saturday, the Right2Know Campaign will march to put an end to the profiteering practices of the major telecommunication providers,\u201d Right2Know said.<\/p>\n
