eNCA is being removed from the Sky pay-TV platform in the United Kingdom just two years after it branched out, Channel24 reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n
TV viewers in the United Kingdom will lose eNCA from Friday at 6am when the South African 24-hour TV news channel goes dark — the end of its inter-continental expansion on satellite television.<\/p>\n
Asked why eNCA was suddenly being cut from Sky, eNCA said: “The reasons behind the move are part of the company’s efforts to respond to changes in the way news media is consumed in a digital world.<\/p>\n
“We know we have a loyal audience on Sky who will be upset by the decision,” said eNCA managing director Patrick Conroy.<\/p>\n
“We regret that very much. However the reality is that satellite broadcasting is expensive and we have to look at cost effective alternatives such as live streaming.”<\/p>\n
Conroy said the channel’s news content would still be globally accessible through alternative platforms like www.Livestation.com, where people outside South Africa could view it.<\/p>\n
