{"id":114235,"date":"2014-11-14T07:32:42","date_gmt":"2014-11-14T05:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=114235"},"modified":"2014-11-14T07:38:23","modified_gmt":"2014-11-14T05:38:23","slug":"amazon-ends-dispute-with-publisher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/114235-amazon-ends-dispute-with-publisher.html","title":{"rendered":"Amazon ends dispute with publisher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of publishing&#8217;s nastiest, most high-profile conflicts, the months-long standoff between Amazon.com and Hachette Book Group, is ending.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon and Hachette announced a multi-year agreement Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>With e-book revenues reportedly the key issue, Amazon had removed pre-order tags for Hachette books, reduced discounts and slowed deliveries.<\/p>\n<p>Neither side seemed to benefit. Hachette sales on Amazon.com, the country&#8217;s biggest bookseller, had dropped sharply. Amazon, meanwhile, issued a disappointing earnings report last month, although the impact of the Hachette dispute was unclear.<\/p>\n<p>Hachette&#8217;s authors include James Patterson and Donna Tartt. It was among five publishers sued in 2012 by the U.S. Justice Department for allegedly fixing e-book prices.
