MultiChoice, Altech and Openview HD have reduced the price of their broadcasting and video-on-demand equipment, which is a signal of increasing competition in the South African entertainment market.<\/p>\n

Altech reduced the price of its Altech Node from R3,499 to R1,999 in a promotion which will last until 25 January 2015.<\/p>\n

The Altech Node<\/strong><\/a> is a smart home product, offering \u201cSmart TV\u201d, \u201cSmart Entertainment\u201d, and \u201cSmart Home\u201d services.<\/p>\n

The Altech Node uses the same satellite as DStv to push content to a decoder-like set-top box, which is then stored on a 1 Terabyte hard drive.<\/p>\n

The following advert appeared in the Sunday Times on 30 November 2014, which promoted the Node price cut.<\/p>\n

DStv Explora<\/h3>\n

DStv is aggressively promoting its Explora decoder, which offers recording, DStv Catch Up, Boxoffice movie rentals, remote recording, HD viewing and more.<\/p>\n

MultiChoice reduced the price of its DStv Explora, and also introduced payment plans<\/strong><\/a> on 24 month contracts.<\/p>\n

The company further partnered with Telkom to bundle the DStv Explora<\/strong><\/a> with some of Telkom\u2019s broadband products.<\/p>\n

Openview HD<\/h3>\n

Openview HD<\/strong><\/a> is South Africa\u2019s first free HD satellite TV service, with over 18 channels that offer local and international entertainment.<\/p>\n

The free channels include music, movies, lifestyle and culture, learning, kids\u2019 and religious programming. Some channels are broadcast in high definition.<\/p>\n

The Openview HD (OVHD) decoder is now available from R849.<\/p>\n
