{"id":116788,"date":"2015-01-13T17:33:34","date_gmt":"2015-01-13T15:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=116788"},"modified":"2015-01-13T18:22:23","modified_gmt":"2015-01-13T16:22:23","slug":"beware-r149-uncapped-data-sim-mtn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadband\/116788-beware-r149-uncapped-data-sim-mtn.html","title":{"rendered":"Beware R149 uncapped data SIM: MTN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MTN said that it has no working relationship with DATA SIM \u2013 the company behind the R149 per month data SIM which offers unlimited data.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband reported on 13 January 2015 that <a title=\"MTN R149 SIM cards\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadband\/116726-r149-uncapped-mobile-data-sim-launched.html\"><strong>DATA SIM was offering MTN-powered SIM cards<\/strong><\/a> which provide unlimited Internet browsing, social media usage, Skype video calling, and file downloads.<\/p>\n<p>The company promises un-throttled speeds on MTN\u2019s 3G and LTE network, using an MTN APN. However, MTN said that this is not the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMTN can categorically state that it has no working relationship with this entity, and neither has it endorsed a product offered by this company,\u201d said Alpheus Mangale, MTN SA\u2019s chief enterprise officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMTN offers wholesale mobile data to ECS\/ECNS licenced operators only via a model that is usage-based for contract terms ranging from 12-60 months,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mangale said\u00a0that consumers should exercise caution before signing up for the R149 unlimited data service.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">DATA SIM founder explains<\/h3>\n<p>DATA SIM founder Saeed Moosa said that he has partnered with a company &#8211; which has an APN with MTN &#8211; to offer the unlimited data service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMTN can check and see that the APN is active.
