{"id":1170,"date":"2007-08-31T13:40:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-31T11:40:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2007-08-31T13:40:00","modified_gmt":"2007-08-31T11:40:00","slug":"saix-verizon-peering-link-problem-causes-downtime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/1170-saix-verizon-peering-link-problem-causes-downtime.html","title":{"rendered":"SAIX-Verizon peering link problem causes downtime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Websites hosted on the Verizon network, which include high profile sites like MyBroadband, ITWeb and Ster Kinekor, were inaccessible to a large group of Internet users on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>A peering link issue between Telkom&rsquo;s SAIX and first tier ISP Verizon Business was to blame for this downtime which started around midday on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At approximately 11h45 today, Telkom&rsquo;s Internet network seized all routing to Verizon Business&rsquo;s primary peering point in Johannesburg as well as the secondary point in the Cape Town region,&quot; says Edwin Thompson, senior executive operations regulatory and legal at Verizon Business SA. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;As soon as the problem was detected, Verizon Business engineers worked closely with Telkom&rsquo;s site engineers to rectify the problem and all networks were restored at approximately 13h15 this afternoon.
