Online image editors have come a long way in the last couple of years and are now a real force to be reckoned with. Ranging from simple, get-the-job-done versions to full Photoshop clones, image editors are something of a quiet revolution in the world of online applications.<\/p>\n
It’s no simple task to choose the best online image editor but there are a few that stand out. Here’s our selection of web-based image editors.<\/p>\n
Photoshop Express<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n As the name suggests this is the real deal. Photoshop Express (PSE) is an online image editor produced by Adobe and although it doesn’t look or work like Photoshop, PSE is extremely easy to use for almost all editing tasks. Pixlr<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Pixlr is one of a series of online Photoshop clones as well as being one of the easiest to get started with. You don’t need to register to start using it and the familiar Photoshop-like interface means the learning curve is shallow. Pixlr has all the usual tools – lasso, brush, clone stamp, blur, sharpen, wand and so on. Pixlr even includes the ability to create images with multiple layers. Images on your hard drive are easily opened in Pixlr and when the editing is complete can be saved back to the hard disk. Pixlr also has an “express” version available which can be used to crop, adjust levels and colours and perform basic editing. Photos can be saved in basic formats including .png, .jpeg and .bmp.<\/p>\n Splashup<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Another Photoshop clone, Splashup is also Flash-based and is a replica of Photoshop. Like Pixlr you don’t need an account to start editing images.
The Flash-based interface is very neat and packs in tons of editing options.
Photoshop Express also allows you to upload and store images online. You’ll need to sign up for the free basic 2GB account to do that. Edits made to images on the PSE website are reversible and all the basic editing functions, as well as many more advanced ones, are included. There is also a Photoshop Express version available for Android and iPhones which means you can edit photos while on the road. <\/p>\n
Simply open them up and use the standard Photoshop tools to manipulate the image. Like Pixlr you can have multiple images open at any one time. Edited images can be saved in .jpeg and .png format. One advantage Splashup has is that integrates with well with most online image storage sites including Picasa, flickr and Facebook. The familiarity of the environment makes Splashup very easy to use.<\/p>\n
