{"id":120814,"date":"2015-03-03T10:10:10","date_gmt":"2015-03-03T08:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=120814"},"modified":"2015-03-03T10:11:28","modified_gmt":"2015-03-03T08:11:28","slug":"students-are-more-tech-savvy-but-does-it-really-help-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/120814-students-are-more-tech-savvy-but-does-it-really-help-them.html","title":{"rendered":"Students are more tech savvy, but does it really help them?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2015 Student Tech Survey revealed that there are pros and cons to students becoming more tech savvy, especially when it comes to social media and smartphone use.<\/p>\n<p>The survey was conducted across South African tertiary education institutions by World Wide Worx and Student Brands.<\/p>\n<p>More than 2,300 students participated in the survey, conducted to establish trends\u00a0in the student technology landscape.<\/p>\n<p>A key question in the survey was whether students felt they were addicted to social networks. The answers showed that it was an issue, but not an overriding one.<\/p>\n<p>Only 11% admitted to being very addicted to social networking, although a further 43% said they were \u201ca little addicted\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Instant messaging, on the other hand, saw double the proportion \u2013 20% \u2013 admit to being very addicted. 35% said they were a little addicted.<\/p>\n<p>Exactly a quarter of students acknowledged that they gave their smartphones and social networks priority over studying for tests and exams.<\/p>\n<p>25% of students admitted using smartphones\u00a0during lectures instead of paying attention.
