{"id":120968,"date":"2015-03-31T09:57:24","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T07:57:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=120968"},"modified":"2015-03-31T09:59:44","modified_gmt":"2015-03-31T07:59:44","slug":"insane-supercar-tech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/motoring\/120968-insane-supercar-tech.html","title":{"rendered":"Insane supercar tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Supercars are epically cool.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you are a minimum-wage earner or a telecoms CEO, no one is immune to the moment of silence and yearning which is brought about by the insane engineering the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Pagani produce.<\/p>\n<p>Combine this with the fact that the 2015 Geneva Motor Show took\u00a0place from 5 &#8211; 15 March in Switzerland, and it is only right that we take a moment to\u00a0explore what is going on in the world of supreme motoring.<\/p>\n<p>While vehicles are\u00a0not our specialty at MyBroadband, tech certainly is, and with this in mind we decided to look at the coolest technology currently available in supercars.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Koenigsegg Regera &#8211;\u00a0Koenigsegg Direct Drive<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_120976\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Koenigsegg-Regera.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-120976\" class=\"wp-image-120976\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Koenigsegg-Regera.jpg\" alt=\"Koenigsegg Regera\" width=\"600\" height=\"328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Koenigsegg-Regera.jpg 1662w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Koenigsegg-Regera-640x350.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-120976\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Koenigsegg Regera<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Koenigsegg has chosen the Geneva Motor Show to unveil arguably the most insane car it has ever built &#8211; the Regera.<\/p>\n<p>With over 1100kw and 2000Nm of torque, the Regera will travel from 0-100km\/h in 2.7 seconds; 0 &#8211; 300km\/h in 12 seconds; and 0 &#8211; 400km\/h in just under 20 seconds &#8211; all without a normal gear box.<\/p>\n<p>This is thanks to Koenigsegg Direct Drive &#8211; KDD for short.<\/p>\n<p>The Regera&#8217;s KDD system replaces a conventional gearbox with a small,\u00a0crank-mounted electric motor &#8211; and a hydraulic coupling &#8211; which fills the torque gap at low speeds.<\/p>\n<p>Both rear wheels also get an electric motor &#8211; giving the car 521kw of electric power alone.<\/p>\n<p>When the car takes off it uses only the electric motors. That&#8217;s the same acceleration as a Porsche 911 Turbo.<\/p>\n<p>Simply select &#8220;Insane&#8221; from the car&#8217;s large touchscreen and let Elon Musk&#8217;s speed machine blow Ferraris and Bentleys away&#8230; if you have\u00a0$105,670 (R1,2 million) to spend, that is.<\/p>\n<p>See the reactions Insane Mode inspires in the video below. This power will take you from 0-100km\/h in 4.4 seconds, and to a top speed of 250km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the impressive speed, the i8 sports carbon fibre scissor\u00a0doors, LED headlights, and a heads-up display which projects your speed onto the windscreen.<\/p>\n<p>Expected features like an LCD navigation screen, battery usage indicators, BMW&#8217;s iDrive controller, a Harman Kardon audio system, and voice command functionality are all available.<\/p>\n<p>Having been fortunate enough to take a seat in an i8, the car also possesses a vital supercar quality &#8211; it makes you feel better than other people when you are inside it.
