MultiChoice has changed its DStv balance checking commercial following a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA).<\/p>\n

The DStv television commercial promoted the company\u2019s balance checking through cellphones service. The commercial invited subscribers to check their balance by dialling *120*68584#.<\/p>\n

One consumer lodged a complaint with the ASA, saying the advertisement was misleading as it did not inform consumers that dialing the advertised USSD code\u00a0would incur costs.<\/p>\n

The user was also unable to access his DStv balance as he had no airtime available at the time.<\/p>\n

MultiChoice responded, saying that it has now included a disclaimer in its advertising regarding applicability of costs.<\/p>\n

The ASA said that MultiChoice\u2019s amendment of the commercial addresses the complainant’s concerns.<\/p>\n
