{"id":12271,"date":"2010-05-04T14:55:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-04T12:55:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-05-04T14:55:00","modified_gmt":"2010-05-04T12:55:00","slug":"another-seacom-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/12271-another-seacom-outage.html","title":{"rendered":"Another SEACOM outage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There has been another unexpected SEACOM outage today after both the primary and secondary terrestrial backhaul routes from Mtunzini to Johannesburg failed.<\/p>\n<p>While there is automatic switching from the primary to secondary routes, switching to a tertiary route is done manually, something which SEACOM is currently busy with.<\/p>\n<p>According to Suveer Ramdhani, Head of Product Strategy at SEACOM, the problem whould be resolved&nbsp;at around&nbsp;15:10 local time.<\/p>\n<p>Broadband users whose international bandwidth needs are served by SEACOM can expect to experience slow or no international connectivity until the problem is resolved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>:&nbsp; According to feedback from some ISPs SEACOM connectivity was restored at around 15:24.<\/p>\n<p><strong>April outage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This downtime follows a <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/12212-SEACOM-explains-prolonged-downtime.html\">prolonged outage in late April<\/a> after problems associated with the SEA-ME-WE 4 submarine cable &#8211; which SEACOM currently utilizes to connect to London &ndash; left many ISPs scrambling to re-route traffic via SAT-3\/SAFE.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst the disruptive portion of the repair process was expected to last only a couple of hours, the precise chronology and actual events which led to the repairs continuing over a four day period remain unknown to SEACOM.<\/p>\n<p>SEACOM recently announced that it is on track to finalize its own link through the Red Sea and over Egypt by the end of June 2010.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;With this piece of the mesh finally in place, another critical alternative for traffic routing will become available thereby further reducing the impact of network outages for African users,&rdquo; SEACOM said in its official blog.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?229533-SEACOM-downtime-after-local-backhaul-problems\"><strong>SEACOM downtime<\/strong><\/a> &lt;&lt; comments and views<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Broadband users may experience international connectivity problems after another SEACOM outage <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-12271","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-telecoms"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12271"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=12271"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12271\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=12271"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=12271"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=12271"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
