The SABC will up its wage\u00a0bill by R100 million, increasing the salaries of\u00a0permanent staff, upping board member fees, and paying freelancers more. This is according to a report in Business Report.<\/p>\n
The increases are part of the broadcaster’s\u00a0corporate plan for 2015\/16 through to 2017\/18.<\/p>\n
\u201cA 7.5 percent increase has been included for permanent staff, board fees, freelancers and temporary staff requirements,\u201d the newspaper stated.<\/p>\n
R41m has been allocated to\u00a0\u201cmidpoint salary adjustments\u201d, while\u00a0R60m has been set aside for\u00a0vacancies. All vacancies will be\u00a0approved by a newly formed committee.<\/p>\n
The reported increases come after the SABC\u00a0looked to borrow\u00a0R1 billion from Nedbank in 2009, a loan which required the broadcaster to limits its wage bill.<\/p>\n
According to the SABC, it is budgeting for\u00a0R250m profit before tax interest, tax, and depreciation, and a net profit of R19m for the 2016 period.<\/p>\n
This is despite\u00a0client cutbacks as a result of “declining TV audiences due to non-performance of critical programming”, according to the report.<\/p>\n
