Telkom has announced its home line rental prices will increase from R166 per month to R189 per month from 1 May 2015.<\/p>\n

The latest 14% price increase follows an increase from R157 per month to R166.50 per month in 1 August 2014.<\/p>\n

Telkom said in communications to subscribers that while \u201clandline rental has gone up, you can enjoy unlimited calls if you move to the Evening & Weekend plan for only R17 extra per month\u201d.<\/p>\n

Telkom also announced that existing weekender plan customers, who currently pay R187 per month, will be moved to the evening and weekend plan at R206 per month.<\/p>\n

Apart from the weekender change, Telkom\u2019s fixed-line calling plan prices have mostly remained\u00a0unchanged.<\/p>\n

However, all ADSL subscribers will be affected by the R23 per month line rental price increase.<\/p>\n

Why Telkom increased prices<\/h3>\n

Jacqui O\u2019Sullivan, Telkom\u2019s Managing Executive for Group Communication, explained that the pricing updates are part of Telkom\u2019s rationalisation of products and services.<\/p>\n

\u201cFactors that have influenced these fixed line rental changes include inflation, along with the access line deficit,\u201d said O\u2019Sullivan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe updates required swift implementation on Telkom\u2019s part. We continue to extensively invest in infrastructure to provide better services and value to our customers, making the product rationalisation an imperative.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that the adjustment also facilitates Telkom\u2019s improvement to its voice packages to offer better value to customers.<\/p>\n

This is particularly visible with Telkom\u2019s \u201cunique unlimited\u201d plan that includes line rental, as well as unlimited anytime calls to fixed and mobile networks, at a flat rate of R599 per month, said O\u2019Sullivan.<\/p>\n
