{"id":127544,"date":"2015-05-28T13:09:38","date_gmt":"2015-05-28T11:09:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=127544"},"modified":"2015-05-28T13:20:16","modified_gmt":"2015-05-28T11:20:16","slug":"canary-the-sa-hacking-early-warning-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/127544-canary-the-sa-hacking-early-warning-system.html","title":{"rendered":"Canary: the SA hacking early warning system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SA-based Thinkst recently unveiled <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/canary.tools\" target=\"_blank\">Canary<\/a><\/strong>, a honeypot appliance that aims to give administrators an early warning when hackers break into their networks.<\/p>\n<p>A starter pack costs $5,000 and includes two Canaries, a dedicated console, and two annual licenses for alerts, support, and maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201ccanary in a coal mine\u201d works by looking like an attractive target: a server or other piece of networking equipment that can easily be hacked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAttackers prowling a target network look for juicy content.
