Google has confirmed Brillo, a stripped-down version of Android which its says will be the operating system for the Internet of Things.<\/p>\n
Android head Sundar Pichai announced Brillo on 28 May at Google I\/O, the search giant\u2019s conference for developers.<\/p>\n
Pichai said Brillo will consist of only the Android kernel, hardware abstraction layer, basic connectivity support, and device administration features such as analytics.<\/p>\n
At launch, Brillo will support Wi-Fi and low-power Bluetooth, but Pichai said they will be working with partners to support other low-power connectivity options.<\/p>\n
Along with Brillo, Google will also introduce Weave, a standardised way for devices, phones, and Internet services to talk to one another.<\/p>\n
Android devices will automatically detect Brillo and Weave devices, said Pichai.<\/p>\n
Brillo will launch in Q3 2015, and Weave in Q4.<\/p>\n
