Skype with this simple message"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bug in Skype makes it possible for anyone to crash the\u00a0Windows version of the messaging app by sending an 8-character iPhone<\/a><\/strong>]<\/p>\n<p>There are reports that Skype on iOS and Android is\u00a0also susceptible to the bug.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2015\/6\/3\/8717951\/skype-crash-http-error\">The Verge reported<\/a><\/strong> that on its testing, Skype for Android wasn&#8217;t\u00a0affected.<\/p>\n<p>The touch-optimised version of Skype for Windows 8.1 is also not affected, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>If you are on one of the affected platforms and receive the message\u00a0<strong>http:\/\/:\u00a0<\/strong>, Skype will crash and it will keep crashing every time you launch it.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_128172\" style=\"width: 376px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Skype.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-128172\" class=\"size-full wp-image-128172\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Skype.jpg\" alt=\"Skype\" width=\"366\" height=\"185\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-128172\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Skype crash message<\/p><\/div>\n<p>MyBroadband tested the bug on OS X and Windows, and can confirm that Windows was vulnerable to the issue, while OS X was not.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/community.skype.com\/t5\/Removed-Posts\/Critical-bug-Skype-7-4-85-102-simple-message-crush-client\/td-p\/3996419\/page\/2\" target=\"_blank\">suggested workaround<\/a><\/strong> on the Skype community forums is to ask the person who sent the crash message to delete it, and to install an older version of Skype.<\/p>\n<p>In our tests we were able to get Skype for Windows to\u00a0temporarily stop crashing by deleting the message and\u00a0deleting the conversation, from the sender&#8217;s end.<\/p>\n<p>News of the\u00a0Skype issue comes days after a bug in Apple\u2019s message notification system in iOS was discovered.<\/p>\n<p>It is possible to trigger a quick reboot on an iPhone by sending a specific message to it through any app that uses iOS
