Apple has unveiled\u00a0the new version of its desktop operating system, OS X 10.11 \u201cEl Capitan\u201d.<\/p>\n

Rumours doing the rounds before Apple\u2019s World Wide Developer Conference on 8 June suggested that the next version of OS X would feature very few user-facing changes.<\/p>\n

Based on the demonstration conducted by Apple’s head of software engineering Craig Federighi, this seemed to be the case.<\/p>\n

Federighi showed off enhanced searching with Spotlight, a set of gestures for Apple Mail and Safari, new window management features for full-screen applications, and split-view full screen.<\/p>\n

According to 9to5Mac<\/a>, Apple will also introduce security features – such as protecting core system files from being tampered with – but this was not mentioned in the keynote.<\/p>\n

Developers are\u00a0able to get preview versions of El Capitan immediately, with a full launch coming “this fall” (September – November 2015).<\/p>\n
