{"id":12943,"date":"2010-06-08T14:54:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-08T12:54:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2010-06-08T14:54:00","modified_gmt":"2010-06-08T12:54:00","slug":"neotel-set-to-upgrade-seacom-backhaul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/12943-neotel-set-to-upgrade-seacom-backhaul.html","title":{"rendered":"Neotel set to upgrade SEACOM backhaul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Neotel is planning some reconfiguration on the SEACOM backhaul scheduled to start at midnight tonight and the process should be completed by 02:00 tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Neotel and SEACOM have jointly agreed to implement some additional redundancy (alternative routes) to improve the overall availability of SEACOM&#8217;s services,&rdquo; said Neotel CTO Angus Hay.&nbsp; &ldquo;A number of major users rely heavily on this cable alone, which provides a growing proportion of South Africa&#8217;s international services.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>MWEB also informed their subscribers about the maintenance on the South African leg of one of their SEACOM links, warning subscribers that there is likely to be downtime on this link of around 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This upgrade will give us increased protection against unforeseen events like cable breaks and in light of the outages we&rsquo;ve had over the last few weeks it&rsquo;s clearly a priority that we get this in place,&rdquo; MWEB said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Although it&rsquo;s a 2 hour maintenance window we only expect the downtime on this link to be in the region of 30 minutes. Our second international link via Seacom as well as our SAT3 capacity will not be affected by this work.
