{"id":130712,"date":"2015-06-29T20:33:22","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T18:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=130712"},"modified":"2015-06-29T21:04:57","modified_gmt":"2015-06-29T19:04:57","slug":"massive-afrihost-adsl-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/adsl\/130712-massive-afrihost-adsl-problems.html","title":{"rendered":"Massive Afrihost ADSL problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Afrihost subscribers have been complaining on the MyBroadband forum, Twitter, and Facebook about the poor performance they are getting on the Internet service provider\u2019s ADSL network.<\/p>\n<p>The company has acknowledged there are issues, with a network status update on its website stating\u00a0that some clients are experiencing problems due to a high demand for bandwidth on the network.<\/p>\n<p><!--- \"We are currently in the process of designing and deploying comprehensive network upgrades nationally,\" Afrihost said. It could not give a timeframe for when these upgrades are expected  to be completed.--><\/p>\n<p>Adding to already high levels of frustration, Afrihost customers also started experiencing problems with Google services such as Gmail and YouTube over the weekend of 27-28 June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur network and management team has escalated the query to MTN who are working on resolving the latency as rapidly as possible,\u201d said Afrihost. \u201cWe expect the latency to Google-based services to improve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked what\u00a0exactly has gone wrong on the Afrihost network, the company said it has seen a demand increase as clients embrace high-definition video streaming from YouTube and other services.<\/p>\n<p>Services like peer-to-peer file sharing also continue to demand large amounts of traffic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt present, the demand for bandwidth is growing much faster than the rate at which new clients are joining our network, which means that it is mainly due to changing consumer habits of existing clients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">A new network<\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_114593\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Gian-Visser-Afrihost.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-114593\" class=\"size-full wp-image-114593\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Gian-Visser-Afrihost.jpg\" alt=\"Afrihost's Gian Visser\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Gian-Visser-Afrihost.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Gian-Visser-Afrihost-250x166.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-114593\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gian Visser Afrihost<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Afrihost CEO Gian Visser said that awhile ago the Afrihost directors started exploring the idea of \u201ca more unique and responsive network\u201d (see <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/709426-Afrihost-The-State-of-the-Network-and-the-Future-(from-Gian-Visser)\">Afrihost &#8211; The State of the Network and the Future<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Over the next few weeks, Afrihost will launch two different proof of concepts for this new network.<\/p>\n<p>The two networks will be different, and Visser said Afrihost will work day and night to ensure they get everything right.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe really great news is that we are going to be asking for your feedback to help us make the decision,\u201d said Visser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to be giving as many clients as we can the opportunity to test drive the networks and then give us feedback on their experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Afrihost\u00a0said the\u00a0two concept networks would differ from Afrihost\u2019s existing one, as\u00a0it will have more control over more aspects of the network.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will enable us to be more agile and flexible in dealing with issues and also with the creation of new services and products.
