Microsoft is set to launch Windows 10 on 29 July 2015.<\/p>\n

Current\u00a0Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users will be able to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system for free during the first year after its launch.<\/p>\n

Qualifying users have already been prompted to reserve their free copy of Windows 10 via the “Get Windows 10” icon<\/strong> on the bottom right of their taskbar.<\/p>\n

In preparation for the launch, Microsoft has sent out emails to future Windows 10 users to explain how and when they can upgrade to the new system.<\/p>\n

When you can\u00a0upgrade to Windows 10<\/h3>\n

Microsoft will roll out Windows 10 “in an organised way” to manage high demand. After 29 July when Windows 10 is ready for your device, it will download in the background (provided you have reserved your copy through the “Get Windows 10” process).<\/p>\n

Users will get a notification to schedule their upgrade at a time which is convenient for them.<\/p>\n

How long it will take to install Windows 10<\/h3>\n

Microsoft states installation, on average, will take “about an hour”. New devices may only take 20 minutes, while older devices may take longer than an hour.<\/p>\n

If you have not reserved your copy of Windows 10 before the roll-out starts, you will first have to download the installation files.<\/p>\n

Each qualifying device must go through the “reserve Windows 10” process, and each will receive a free upgrade to the new OS.<\/p>\n
