{"id":132655,"date":"2015-07-21T07:50:36","date_gmt":"2015-07-21T05:50:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=132655"},"modified":"2015-07-21T07:54:59","modified_gmt":"2015-07-21T05:54:59","slug":"windows-10-when-you-can-upgrade-how-long-it-will-take","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/132655-windows-10-when-you-can-upgrade-how-long-it-will-take.html","title":{"rendered":"Windows 10 &#8211; when you can upgrade, how long it will take"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft is set to launch Windows 10 on 29 July 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Current\u00a0Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users will be able to upgrade to the latest version of the operating system for free during the first year after its launch.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying users have already been prompted to reserve their free copy of Windows 10 via the <strong>&#8220;Get Windows 10&#8221; icon<\/strong> on the bottom right of their taskbar.<\/p>\n<p>In preparation for the launch, Microsoft has sent out emails to future Windows 10 users to explain how and when they can upgrade to the new system.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">When you can\u00a0upgrade to Windows 10<\/h3>\n<p>Microsoft will roll out Windows 10 &#8220;in an organised way&#8221; to manage high demand. After 29 July when Windows 10 is ready for your device, it will download in the background (provided you have reserved your copy through the &#8220;Get Windows 10&#8221; process).<\/p>\n<p>Users will get a notification to schedule their upgrade at a time which is convenient for them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">How long it will take to install Windows 10<\/h3>\n<p>Microsoft states installation, on average, will take &#8220;about an hour&#8221;. New devices may only take 20 minutes, while older devices may take longer than an hour.<\/p>\n<p>If you have not reserved your copy of Windows 10 before the roll-out starts, you will first have to download the installation files.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Upgrading multiple Windows devices<\/h3>\n<p>Each qualifying device must go through the &#8220;reserve Windows 10&#8221;
