Internet peering traffic in SA: NapAfrica vs ISPA INX<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n
Concern has been expressed that Neotel\u2019s peering link at the Cape Town Internet Exchange (CINX) is saturated, which may impact the service levels of telecoms providers using the\u00a0link.<\/p>\n
MyBroadband has seen correspondence from\u00a0April 2015 which alerted Neotel to the fact that the 1Gbps peering link hits capacity from time to time.<\/p>\n
At the time, Neotel said it was planning to upgrade the peering link at CINX, and peer at NAPAfrica. It added that it was also planning other changes to improve peering.<\/p>\n
However, MyBroadband has been provided with a peering graph that\u00a0shows the total saturation of Neotel\u2019s CINX peering link at the end of July.<\/p>\n
This saturation means that clients which rely on the link to carry voice traffic from their network to Neotel are experiencing problems.<\/p>\n
The fact that Neotel does not have the capability to privately peer at CINX or NAPAfrica further aggravates the situation.<\/p>\n
Neotel said it has seen a significant increase in the traffic through CINX since last week Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo the best of our knowledge, the increase of traffic did not congest the interfaces, nor did it result in customer complaints,\u201d said Neotel.<\/p>\n
Neotel said it has already initiated an upgrade project, as part of its capacity management process, that will double the link’s capacity in\u00a0the coming months.<\/p>\n
