{"id":1342,"date":"2007-09-17T16:54:30","date_gmt":"2007-09-17T14:54:30","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2007-09-17T16:54:30","modified_gmt":"2007-09-17T14:54:30","slug":"ericsson-to-supply-70m-fibre-optic-submarine-network-in-angola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/1342-ericsson-to-supply-70m-fibre-optic-submarine-network-in-angola.html","title":{"rendered":"Ericsson to supply &#036;70m fibre-optic submarine network in Angola"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ericsson is the sole supplier involved in the network and will provide the entire infrastructure, including the fibre-optic cable, transmission equipment and services in the contract worth &#36;70m.<\/p>\n<p>The network, which is to be known as &rsquo;Adones&rsquo; (Angola Domestic Network System), will cover almost the entire length of Angola&rsquo;s 1600km coastline &#8211; from Cabinda province in the north to Namibe in the south &#8211; and will be used to deliver telecommunications and connectivity to the region.<\/p>\n<p>Expected to be completed by the end of 2008, the submarine fibre-optic network will supply the coastal region with uninterrupted telecommunications and connectivity at an economical price.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;This is a very exciting and important project for us,&quot; explains Jo&atilde;o Avelino, president and CEO of Angola Telecom, &quot;consumers in the coastal regions will benefit tremendously from increased, better quality communications services and, ultimately, the low cost of these services will enable the region&rsquo;s industries and businesses to be more competitive in the world economy.
