{"id":134698,"date":"2015-08-11T12:58:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-11T10:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=134698"},"modified":"2015-08-11T13:00:43","modified_gmt":"2015-08-11T11:00:43","slug":"iphone-6s-launch-window-and-new-features","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/smartphones\/134698-iphone-6s-launch-window-and-new-features.html","title":{"rendered":"iPhone 6s launch window and new features: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The next iPhone, expected to be an incremental improvement or \u201cS\u201d iteration on the iPhone 6, will likely be announced on 9 September 2015, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/johnpaczkowski\/apples-fall-iphone-event-to-be-held-sept-9?utm_term=4ldqpia#.nrlX1O2ll\" target=\"_blank\">Buzzfeed has reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This window would fall in line with previous iPhone announcements by Apple.<\/p>\n<p>Apple announced the iPhone 5 on 12 September 2012, and launched it on\u00a021 September. The iPhone 5s and 5c were unveiled on 10 September 2014 and launched on 20 September.<\/p>\n<p>The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were announced on 9 September 2014 and launched on 19 September.<\/p>\n<p>While the iPhone 6s is expected to be announced on 9\u00a0September, rumour has it the <a title=\"New iPhone coming soon: report\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/smartphones\/128594-new-iphone-coming-soon-report.html\"><strong>new range of iPhones will launch on 25 September<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the new features coming to the device is a \u201cForce Touch\u201d screen, a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/9to5mac.com\/2015\/08\/10\/force-touch-on-iphone-6s-revealed-expect-shortcuts-faster-actions-across-ios\/\" target=\"_blank\">recent report on 9to5Mac<\/a><\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>Force Touch made its debut on the Apple Watch, offering users a way to access context-specific controls in an application by pressing firmly on the screen.\u00a0A similar version of the technology is used in\u00a0the\u00a0<strong><a title=\"New Apple MacBook unveiled\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/121396-new-apple-macbook-unveiled.html\">new 12-inch MacBook<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>9to5Mac said the iOS version of Force Touch is called \u201cOrb\u201d inside Apple.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Force Touch on Apple Watch which presents a window with extra controls that did not fit on the screen, Orb is designed to skip lists of options or button presses. 9to5Mac gave the following examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maps:<\/strong> You can look up a point of interest, then Force Touch on the destination to get directions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Music:<\/strong> You can Force Touch on a track to be presented with some of the most commonly-used actions. For example, if you deep press on the listing for a song, a menu will appear to add the song to a playlist.<\/li>\n<li><strong>App icons:<\/strong>\u00a0If you Force Touch on the Phone app icon, you can shortcut directly to the Voicemail tab. Similarly, deep pressing on the News app icon would take you directly to either the <em>Favorites<\/em> or <em>For You<\/em> tabs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consistency with MacBook:<\/strong> Like the new Macbook, deep pressing on a link in Safari will bring up a preview of that webpage. A Force Touch on an address or contact name will show a preview of a map view or contact card.
