Samsung has unveiled a 16TB solid state hard drive at the Flash Memory Summit in California, Ars Technica reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Called the Samsung PM1633a, the new drive has a capacity of 15.36TB and is based on the company’s recently-announced 256 Gigabit, three-dimensional Vertical NAND flash memory chips<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ars Technica noted that the largest mechanical hard drives made by Seagate and Western Digital currently offer capacities of around 10TB.<\/p>\n

No price for the new SSD has been announced yet, though Samsung said it is aimed at the enterprise sector.<\/p>\n

According to reports, Samsung showed off a server with 48 of these drives in it.\u00a0Boasting a total storage capacity of 768TB, the server measured its performance at 2,000,000 input\/output operations per second.<\/p>\n
